She/her - Why did you create this work?
This is a poem about the love between a kid and its adult. A love that can be both easy and challenging. It is told from the viewpoint of the kid in a relationship where the kid takes on the responsibilities as an adult and the adult acts like a child. I wanted to illustrate it because it spoke to me both as a mother and as a person who was once a child. Many of us will recognise the feeling of not being the adult we want to be for our kids because of mental or physical absence. - How were your illustrations used?
My illustrations were used in a picture book Published by the Danish publisher 'Forlage Frø' in Denmark in November of 2024. On each of the spreads was a single line from a poem about love written by debutant Jacob Marlowe. It starts with the words 'While I love you..' on the first spread and continues '...We will go on adventures together' on the second spread. - What materials and techniques did you use?
I used pencil and gouache on Arches hot pressed watercolour paper. I Used Photoshop for layout and corrections. - Was this project commissioned?

Zarah Juul was originally trained as an animator and graphic designer, and spent ten years as a Game Director making video games for kids, before dedicating to illustration in 2012.
Known for her playful, quirky style, Zarah cares about off-beat personalities and always offers the audience an additional inexplicit storyline. She works with both ink, watercolour, pencil as well as digital.
She has illustrated numerous books on the major publishing houses in Denmark. - Where are you currently based?
