She/her - Why did you create this work?
I was delighted to be asked to illustrate the beautiful poem ‘Flower Brother’ by Jean-Mark Sens. It portrays a man who’s had a full life as a sportsperson – his skill and precision are described clearly in the poem. Now he dedicates the same care and attention to picking the perfect flowers, and placing them at the altar.
I knew the illustration had to be vibrant and colourful, yet tender. - How were your illustrations used?
It was a half-page illustration in Sojourners Magazine. I knew the page background would be a particular shade of yellow, so from the outset we discussed using colours that would complement this. - What materials and techniques did you use?
Hand-drawn in ink (brush and dip-pen) and digitally coloured. - Was this project commissioned?
