She/Her - Why did you create this work?
I was commissioned to create 40 black and white illustrations (double spreads, single pages, vignettes and stripes) and a book cover in colour to visually accompany the awards-winning children's Poet John Agard's work. - How were your illustrations used?

Shirley Hottier is a French self-taught illustrator based in Edinburgh, UK . After winning the 2021 FAB Prize, Shirley was awarded a Creative Scotland Create:Inclusion Grant and started creating editorial illustrations for Rebel Girls, Save the Children UK and Food and Wine Magazine. Since she's completed her Pop Up Project Pathways into Children's publishing, Shirley has been working on three picture books in the US, with Little Bee Books and the UK, with Otter Barry Books and Simon & Schuster. - Where are you currently based?
