She/Her - Why did you create this work?
‘Women at the Wheel’ was created for an open call for First Bus West of England to celebrate 80 years of Female Bus Drivers in Bristol.
When I illustrated the bus design I was studying at university and had been experimenting in my coursework with how illustration could be used to help educate people about history. I am also an advocate for the importance of accessible public transport and how important it can be for the independence of vulnerable people. - How were your illustrations used?
On a Bus Wrap in Bristol
I wanted the design to be educational and to help the public learn more about the lives of inspirational women who made strives for gender equality in the transport industry, highlighting there have been many steps by many women. The bus being part of the city and something that is so visible helps to make this information more accessible to the public. - What materials and techniques did you use?
I used Procreate for the individual illustrations and then combined them in Adobe Photoshop. - Was this project commissioned?
