She/Her - Why did you create this work?
Paige emerged in my sketchbook when drawing on memories of childhood friends. Sketching from childhood experiences playing outdoors offered an escape back to simpler times, when I felt connected to other people and to nature. This project celebrates the simple things, the beautifully mundane. It's a reminder to children and adults alike that the little joys of life are still accessible. - How were your illustrations used?
These illustrations were created for a picturebook I made while studying my MA in Children’s Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art. - What materials and techniques did you use?
Each artwork is a monoprint. I painted the images in ink onto a PVC sheet, and transferred each image onto paper by passing it through an etching press. I worked in multiple layers to overlap colours and marks. I aimed to create rich textures that evoked the experience of the outside world. - Was this project commissioned?
