She/Her - Why did you create this work?
"Traje à Vianesa”, an homage to the craft of female textile art, illustrates the process women undertook over 100 years ago in Viana do Castelo, Portugal, in order to create their own traditional costumes: from tending sheep, gathering linen, spinning yarn, to embroidering their designs. The ornamental gutters and motifs are inspired by a 100 yr old heirloom costume. A queer twist is present. - How were your illustrations used?
"Traje à Vianesa" was adapted into a 4 color risograph print, hand-printed by the artist, as well as printed onto fabric through sublimation printing. - What materials and techniques did you use?
The original illustration is hand-drawn, painted with alcohol markers and colored pencils over an A3 sized, 180gm paper. The sketch was drawn using graphite pencils, and a color test was painted digitally over the sketch, before painting the final illustration traditionally. - Was this project commissioned?
