She/Her - Why did you create this work?
This project was commissioned by Adriano Salani Editore to illustrate the cover of “The Giant’s Secret” by Matteo Goggia. Inspired by themes of diversity and protection, I portrayed the father as both a visual and metaphorical frame for the story, emphasizing the unique bond between the characters and the contrast in their proportions, an essential element that lies at the heart of the narrative. - How were your illustrations used?
The illustration was featured on the cover of “The Giant’s Secret,” published by Adriano Salani Editore. It visually conveys key themes of the novel, including diversity, adventure, and the unique bond between father and daughter. The book is available in Italian bookstores and can also be purchased online. - What materials and techniques did you use?
I started with pencil drawings and then digitally colored them using tools such as Procreate and Photoshop for the final rendering. My approach emphasized playful distortions of scale and proportion to highlight the story’s fairy-tale atmosphere and coming-of-age themes. - Was this project commissioned?

Mara Pidello is an illustrator based in Turin. She holds a degree in Communication and Graphic Design from IAAD and completed MiMaster, an international illustration program, in 2022.
