she/her - Why did you create this work?
Art director Elana Schlenker and I wanted to explore the idea of objects wrapping each other & themselves for the 2024 New York Times Holiday Gift Guide. I had so much fun playing with this–the mishaps, chaos, and successes of wrapping during the holiday season, as embodied by anthropomorphized objects. - How were your illustrations used?
The first set of illustrations and animations were used on the NYT’s digital platform, then the print version was published, which featured the cover, interior pattern (to be used as wrapping paper), table of contents, 12 header illustrations, plus an editorial illustration for an article in the back of the guide. There were also additional assets, including an animation, used in promo ads. - What materials and techniques did you use?
Initial sketches were made in my sketchbook with pencil, and then the project was continued and finalized by digital drawing in Procreate. - Was this project commissioned?
