She/her - Why did you create this work?
The great adventure of a little mouse who lives on the moon. Having caught a birthday balloon, he takes on the mission to return it to the boy who lost it. Along the way he finds friendship – filling the void created by a life of isolation, emphasising the importance of connection.
This brief was created for the 2021 Carmalite Prize of which this was the winning entry. - How were your illustrations used?
Moon mouse is a children's book written by Corrinne Averiss, illustrated by Lorna Hill (me) and published by Hachette children's group. October 2024. - What materials and techniques did you use?
illustrations start off as pencil sketches before being put into procreate where they're drawn up into the final colour artworks. - Was this project commissioned?

Lorna is a children’s book illustrator who up in rural suffolk, where her love of nature was nurtured and continues to be reflected in a lot of her works. During her time studying at NUA she was awarded the 2021 Carmalite prize by Hachette Children's group, from which she has since had two books published. Her first book 'Swift', which she is the author and illustrator, was published in 2023. - Where are you currently based?
