She/Her - Why did you create this work?
Brief: capture the noir-esque glamour of the story, focus on duality, using front and back covers convey Tom Ripley and his alter egos – create something graphic and suggestive with a repeat pattern to it and no full faces. So, I created a graphic concept using silhouettes as cut-outs with matching floor patterns, repeated with subtle differences on the front and back. The cut-outs and small scenes inside them depict Ripley’s alter egos as well as the duality of his interior and exterior life.
- How were your illustrations used?
The illustrations were used on the front and back covers of the Vintage Quarterbound Classics edition of The Talented Mr Ripley by Patricia Highsmith.
- What materials and techniques did you use?
I drew the small figures with pencil and the silhouettes, objects and scenes were drawn in Procreate. I put all the elements together using Photoshop.
