She/Her - Why did you create this work?
This series of illustrations was my diploma project for the Academy of Fine Arts in Kyiv, Ukraine. I’ve chosen this book to illustrate because I was growing up with the stories by Gianni Rodari, the famous Italian writer of the 20th century. His book “Gelsomino in the Land of Liars” caught my attention because of its relevance to modern politics, explained for children in a simple way. The story depicts the power of the truthful voice in an evil environment. - How were your illustrations used?
The series of original screen prints together with the model of the book “Gelsomino in the Land of Liars” were displayed in the Academy of Fine Arts in Kyiv. Later the illustration series was presented in two solo exhibitions in Prague, Czechia. - What materials and techniques did you use?
The illustrations you see are 3-color serigraphy prints. Each of the layers of the image was prepared in an analogue way for hand-printing. To make the stencils, I used a different material for every color: spray paint, oil pastels and ink.
