He/Him - Why did you create this work?
The brief was to respond creatively to the sentence "Sometimes I like to hide in the word foxgloves – in the middle of foxgloves" from the poem Foxglove Country by Zaffar Kunial. My research took me into the practices and traditions of fox hunting. Blooding was a tradition where the Master of Hounds would smear the blood of a fox onto the cheeks or forehead of a novice, usually a child. - How were your illustrations used?
I'm currently studying for an Illustration MA at Falmouth University, and the illustration was part of a response to an assignment. - What materials and techniques did you use?
Foxhunting was banned in the UK as late as 2005, so picture research was relatively easy. After thumbnailing the image design, the two-colour finished artwork was drawn direct onto A2 heavyweight cartridge paper using fountain pen and different coloured inks. - Was this project commissioned?

@hughhadfield - Biography
I’m an emerging editorial illustrator specialising in representational caricature. My work is a commentary on the individuals and events that play a significant role in popular culture and everyday characters making their way in an increasingly odd world.
In 2017 I changed career track and retrained as an illustrator, graduating in 2023 with a Distinction.
Since then, I’ve written, illustrated and published a graphic novel, started studying for a Masters, and am building an editorial portfolio. - Where are you currently based?
United Kingdom (UK)
