  • Why did you create this work?
‘The Undocumented Archive of Queer Craftsmanship: Today was yesterday is tomorrow’ highlights the erasure of queer identities in German carpentry history. Gaps in archives don't mean these lives never existed. History is selectively recorded and reveals only fragments. Based on research and interviews, the project bridges past, present, and future to reclaim lost narratives.
  • How were your illustrations used?
This work was the main visual work of my Master’s thesis, researching about the erasure of queer identities in craftsmanship. The project earned me a stipend and was created as a large-scale triptych, using bold colors and imposing size to demand attention and space it was never given. It is currently exhibited at Malerladen, a flinta led construction store, in Berlin.
  • What materials and techniques did you use?
I built a large wooden triptych (2.48 × 2.63 m), inspired by the monumental doors of Berlin’s old buildings, to claim space and presence. I mixed my own acrylics—each color with meaning: I.e. the historical Berlin Blue is a no-longer-produced pigment; Vine Black comes from dry-distilled plant waste. Craftsmanship and vibrant colors merge into an immersive visual experience.
