- Why did you create this work?
I created this picture book around the sounds of Beijing, with the iconic pigeon whistle as the main thread. The protagonist, in search of this sound, encounters the city's rich soundscape—bustling breakfast stalls, vendors' calls, Beijing opera under pavilions, drum tower beats, and more. This book invites children to explore their surroundings through sound. Growing up in Beijing, I wanted to capture these sounds to honor my late grandparents and document the city's changing landscape. - How were your illustrations used?
My illustrations were used in a picture book exploring the sounds of Beijing. They depict the city's rich soundscape—from bustling hutongs to the drum tower—guiding children through its culture and traditions. The artwork appears across storytelling spreads, encouraging discovery through hidden details, inviting young readers to listen, explore, and connect with their surroundings. - What materials and techniques did you use?
I primarily used digital painting, combined with collage, colored pencils, and watercolor to create a layered and textured effect. - Was this project commissioned?
