She/Her - Why did you create this work?
This illustration was inspired by a walk along the San Francisco Bay with a friend, taken as a break from the distressing news in the U.S. I noticed people sitting on the beach, enjoying each other’s company. The serene scene brought me a sense of peace and grounding amidst a time of uncertainty and fear, inspiring this piece. - How were your illustrations used?
Published as personal work on my Instagram account - What materials and techniques did you use?
I began with sketches on paper, then finished the drawing in Procreate. Final adjustments to composition and color were made in Photoshop. - Was this project commissioned?

Yijing Yan is a San Francisco-based illustrator and designer specializing in visual identity, packaging, and illustration. Since earning her MFA in 2019, she has been working at design agencies on brands such as SunSip by Health-Ade, Honey Mama’s, KinderMed, and Petit Pot. In her personal illustrations, she is most inspired by beautiful moments, things, and creatures she encounters in life. - Where are you currently based?
