Why did you choose to enter this work?
This work is the first completed comic book I made after I entered university. I thought I should enter this work to WIA2022 since I put a lot of effort into planning this work and making it myself.
What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
I inserted many scenes that emphasize the scale of the enormous ocean to arouse awe and respect for the ocean. They are my favorite parts because they express the majesty of the ocean as intended.
What excites you most about being shortlisted?
In fact, I had lost confidence in my work. So when my work was shortlisted for WIA2022, I was surprised and excited that it could be an opportunity for someone to see my work and feel what I intended.
Where do you usually work?
I don't have my own studio or office yet. Usually, I work at my home or school, and sometimes at a café to refresh myself.
How long did it take to complete your project?
In the 15-week class, I organized my thoughts on the ocean, various images, and the way the ocean is shown in the media for the previous 7 weeks, and drew illustrations for the remaining 7 weeks.
What’s your favourite thing to draw?
I like to draw ocean, animals, universe, something black and white, something blue. I think I like to use secret and mysterious things as the subject of my illustration.
What is your best tip for other illustrators?
Experience and draw a lot. The more you experience, the deeper your work becomes. The deeper the work, the more attractive it is, and there are more stories that can be told through illustration.
What are your plans for the future?
I want to continue working on illustration and build a career as a comic book artist and illustrator.
