He/Him - Why did you create this work?
This work visualizes themes of community, motherhood, and societal pressure in Your Neighbour’s Table. The brief: design a cover capturing the complex lives of four women in a government apartment near Seoul. I aimed to show both their connection and the tension of balancing personal dreams with cultural expectations. - How were your illustrations used?
My illustration was used as the cover design for Your Neighbour’s Table. It was applied across various platforms, including the book’s print edition and digital listings, and book retailers. The illustration visually represents the story’s themes of motherhood, community, and societal pressure, helping to draw readers into the narrative before they even open the book. - What materials and techniques did you use?
I created the illustration using Procreate on the iPad for sketching and painting, allowing for detailed, organic work. I then refined the design in Adobe Illustrator, ensuring clean lines and scalability. This combination of tools allowed for a balance between hand-drawn artistry and precision. - Was this project commissioned?
