She/Her - Why did you create this work?
As part of the Top of the Rock Experience at Rockefeller Center, these 304-linear feet of custom hand-painted, gold-leaf embellished murals surround visitors throughout the Welcome Gallery up to the Observation Deck. Stylized figures, both historic and contemporary, art deco motifs, and iconic landmarks and imagery of Rockefeller Center interplay in varying perspective planes to convey the visual history of the site. The traditional art is juxtaposed with immersive audio & visual effects. - How were your illustrations used?
These large-scale hand-painted murals echoed the traditional historic murals on view throughout the campus while enhancing the built environment of the Top of the Rock Experience. Sculptural photo opportunities, a projection mapped 3D model, a multi-sensory film and rides were incorporated throughout to thrill visitors and impress upon them Rockefeller Center's cultural & innovative significance. - What materials and techniques did you use?
The custom art was drawn traditionally with pencil, digitally painted, and printed large-scale on yellow back canvas (10’ high by 304 linear feet overall). The full-scale murals were then hand-painted with acrylic paint, embellished with 23k gold leaf, and installed on-site. - Was this project commissioned?
