She/Her - Why did you create this work?
I was tasked by the National Gallery Singapore to create a sustainable interactive public installation for the Capitaland Malls in downtown Singapore, for the month of National Day. Thus, I centred the art around 3 key ideas : the local community, natural environment and folktales. I referenced local architectural forms and batik textiles, whilst giving them a contemporary twist. The structures were designed to house 5 AR activations for people to explore, and provide backdrops for photo taking. - How were your illustrations used?
The installation was designed in modules so that it could be transported and reassembled at 3 different malls in the downtown area throughout the month. The space also needed to include a communal area where workshops and activities catered to mall visitors would take place. With each new location, the installation would reveal new AR activations so parts of the structures could open and close. - What materials and techniques did you use?
The main art was created using Adobe illustrator. Illustrations with AR activations attached were made using Procreate and animated in After Effects. The graphics were printed onto Cardboard by Trio Packaging using HP's eco-friendly water-based Latex ink, allowing the installation to be recyclable. - Was this project commissioned?
