He/Him - Why did you create this work?
This non-fiction book explores the fascinating world of bears, delving into their habitats, diets, behaviours, sizes, and cultural significance. It also highlights their role in ecosystems and the importance of their conservation. Designed to spark curiosity in animal biology, this book aims to inspire children to develop a love for bears and a deeper appreciation for the natural world. - How were your illustrations used?
Each page of the 40-page book is covered with my artwork, from cover and endpapers and throughout, highlighting important aspects of the text and helping to enhance understanding of the more difficult or harder-to-imagine concepts. A personal highlight is seeing the size of different bear species next to a human so that you can truly grasp their scale differences. - What materials and techniques did you use?
I sketch using pencil and paper, then work up more refined roughs using Adobe Fresco – this helps me illustrate accurately around the text ensuring that the page is cohesive in a design sense. Final artworks are created using Illustrator and Photoshop. - Was this project commissioned?
