- Why did you create this work?
This work was commissioned by Gary Cochran, art director of The Economist’s 1843 magazine for a 2024 article titled: “Secrets of a ransomware negotiator”.
- How were your illustrations used?
For 1843 magazine, Noma Bar illustrated an investigative piece about the rapidly growing ransomware industry and the risks it poses to global cyber-security. The illustrations were used in the summer print magazine, on the website and the app as well as on social media to promote the article. - What materials and techniques did you use?
Noma's work is characterised by his playful and intelligent use of negative space, drawing the viewer into the image.

Noma Bar is a graphic designer, illustrator and artist. His work has appeared in many media publications including: Time Out London, BBC, Random House, The Observer, The Economist and Wallpaper. Bar has illustrated over one hundred magazine covers, published over 550 illustrations and released three books of his work. Bar's work has become well known throughout the world, winning many industry awards; most recently a prestigious Gold Clio. - Where are you currently based?
