She/Her - Why did you create this work?
Inspired by a family of crows living in our chimney pot, I created a story about a sooty crow called Jo who loves his sooty home but when he’s teased by the other birds for living in a pot, he makes his family to move to a tree. Jo realises in the end, that the best home is where the heart is, even if it is a bit sooty! A story about being true to who you are and where you come from. - How were your illustrations used?
For self promotion on Instagram and on my online portfolio. - What materials and techniques did you use?
I used a stabilo woody pencil and china marker for the crows, ink-tense colour pencils and neo-colour pastels for the colourful birds, graphite pencil for outlines, and charcoal for sooty-ness. The black and white sketches were graphite pencil and a stabilo. Image editing was done in procreate. - Was this project commissioned?
