She/Her - Why did you create this work?
These illustrations were created for a picture book I wrote about a girl named Olive, who welcomes a refugee girl called Ana into her home. The story was inspired by my own experience of welcoming a Syrian family into our local community.
At its heart, this book is about bringing colour back into the lives of refugees, and through doing so, we may discover that they bring colour to our lives too. - How were your illustrations used?
They were used as interior images inside 'Colours of Home', a picture book written and illustrated by me and published by Graffeg in 2024. - What materials and techniques did you use?
I used Acrylic paint and watercolour pencils to do the bulk of the image and then finished off the detail using the programme 'Procreate' on my ipad. - Was this project commissioned?
