She/ Her - Why did you create this work?
The brief was to create a new gift concept for Lush’s popular Snow Fairy range with a retro feel, abstract dreamscape in a psychedelic, playful and vibrant style. Illustrations had to be applied to a spinning music box tin, with a lid containing cut out elements of the design. The Snow Fairy range's distinctive pink, starry aesthetic was retained but reworked with mushrooms as a central feature. - How were your illustrations used?
I created a continuous illustration to wrap around the tin and flow seamlessly over the join. I designed the cut out elements inside the dome of the lid. For this section I chose illustrations that would create tiers within the composition and were simple but playful shapes that were easy to produce. I also illustrated an optical illusion pattern for the surface of the lid, below the cut outs.
- What materials and techniques did you use?
The initial drawings for this artwork were done by hand in pen and pencil and then put together digitally. I used photoshop and illustrator to put the artwork together and add colour. I created some textures with a risograph printer, scanned them and applied them to the artwork on illustrator. - Was this project commissioned?
