She/Her - Why did you create this work?
The Great Apple Feast is a story about bravery, celebrating being different and the joy of cooking with a loved one. It celebrates being in nature, being part of a community and the small, everyday pleasures of sharing food. I wanted to explore the conflicting feelings of anticipation, worry and excitement, emotions that are reflected in the gatefold that opens at the centre of the book. - How were your illustrations used?
These illustrations are taken from a picturebook I made on my MA in Children's Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art. - What materials and techniques did you use?
The artwork was made by layering acrylic gouache and watercolour paint before adding coloured pencils and wax pastels to add details. I chose a palette that reflected the autumnal time of year and the apples that I drew whilst researching the story. - Was this project commissioned?
