She/Her - Why did you create this work?
The Bedtime Circus celebrates the magic of everyday adventure, anticipation and imagination. I wanted to explore the excitement of putting your coat on on top of your pyjamas, and the sense of nostalgic anticipation that comes with adventuring at night time. It is a a wordless story that explores the boundary between reality and imagination. - How were your illustrations used?
These Illustrations are taken from a picturebook I made whilst studying on my MA in Children's Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art. - What materials and techniques did you use?
The artwork was made using mixed traditional media. I layered acrylic gouache and watercolour paint onto paper, before adding coloured pencils and wax pastels for details and to give a sense of the light of the circus shining in through the windows and doors. - Was this project commissioned?
