She/Her - Why did you create this work?
'LIFE' is the third book in my children's natural history series 'wild wonders'. Biodiversity is one of the most important topics of our time, and I wanted to not only introduce readers to the amazing flora and fauna of our world, but guide them through the rich interwoven biological systems that are so important to sustaining life. - How were your illustrations used?
This was a heavily illustrated non-fiction picture book. - What materials and techniques did you use?
This work was a combination of digital drawing in procreate and hand-marbled paper textures. As well as stippling with light colours on darker backgrounds, I use techniques inspired by printmaking and paper collage. - Was this project commissioned?

Jennifer N. R. Smith is an award-winning illustrator and the director of WonderTheory Studio, based in Bristol. She studied Drawing at Camberwell, UAL, and is also a qualified scientific and medical illustrator, using her creative and technical training in tandem. She has worked with clients such as Thames and Hudson, Hachette, Quarto, Penguin Random House, BBC History, The British Library, and David Attenborough. - Where are you currently based?
