He/Him - Why did you create this work?
We set out to explore why some sports look so bad in movies. Working with writer Jeff Vitkun, we created a 6-page feature for Beneficial Shock! Issue 9: Fun & Games. Illustrated with a chaotic football pitch invasion of sporting movie greats, the piece engages readers interactively, inviting them to identify 37 films and spot Oscar-winning sports movies hidden throughout. - How were your illustrations used?
The illustrations formed an action-packed scene where readers physically engage by flipping the page to complete the image. Scattered trophies hint at Oscar-winning sports films, while a sports-style scorecard allows readers to list bad on-screen depictions of sports. Fictional ads for movie products add humor, enhancing the theme of playfulness and interactivity. - What materials and techniques did you use?
