Why did you choose to enter this work?
It's not often that I remain happy with an illustration after time has passed. However, with this illustration, everything fell into place for me. This image represents the struggles some kids face.
What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
I like that everyone sees something else in this illustration. Is the bird really there? Is he imaginary? "Of course, it's a blackbird!"
What excites you most about being shortlisted?
I'm thrilled to be represented among these other amazing artists around the world. It feels good to receive that confirmation.
Where do you usually work?
I'm in between two ateliers. I used to rent an atelier very closely. But as we speak, we are finishing up our renovation where I will have a studio for my own.
How long did it take to complete your project?
I began the project with very rough sketches that remained in my sketchbook for several months. When I finally started working on the image, it took me about a week to complete.
What is your dream commission?
I'm living my dream! My first childrensbook is coming out in September, and a second one is on its way. The next big goal is to publish this book, Bird and Ino.
What’s your favourite thing to draw?
I really like to draw people and birds! Next to that, I'm into urban sketching. I like to draw architecture as I have a degree in Interior Architecture.
What is your best tip for other illustrators?
Don't doubt yourself! Listen to your own intuition and feelings, don't be influenced by the work of others. And take your time if needed!
What are your plans for the future?
I really enjoy becoming more involved in the publishing world, I'd like to continue that. There are also exciting projects waiting: a mural, live drawing with an orchestra and so on.
