She/Her - Why did you create this work?
Idioms was part of my Master's Project in Children's Book Illustration, at Cambridge School of Art. Inspired by time spent living abroad, trying to learn other languages, but often feeling a little alien. There are many common threads to language and folk traditions around the world, and Idioms and their origins really captured my attention. It all felt like such a wonderful thing to celebrate. - How were your illustrations used?
The Illustrations are being used on the cover and interior of the children's Picture book for ages 4-7. They are an introduction to the world of Idioms, something that is spoken but not celebrated as much as it should be. - What materials and techniques did you use?
I used watercolour and then created a limited palate and digitised the colour in photoshop. As a printmaker and illustrator, I wanted to create a system of working that shows the printmaking technique, but is very adaptable to the Publishing world, where corrections and time need to be accounted for - Was this project commissioned?

Emily Bornoff is an illustrator, textile designer and book designer. Originally from London, loves to travel, and be inspired from art, and landscapes around the world. Her earliest inspirations came from the antiquities found in her father’s Antique shop in Westbourne Grove. She creates prints as well as paints and draws as much as she can. Emily loves to draw on location, everywhere she goes. - Where are you currently based?
