- Why did you create this work?
Coming out is a perilous act when you don’t know how it will be received. It’s a leap into the void, an instantaneous action that leads to who-knows-where. We wanted to make a film that presents the difficulties of coming out within a conservative family while focusing on hope and highlighting the benefits of such an act of courage. - How were your illustrations used?
Dialogue is at the heart of the story. Yet, no words can come out of Lili's mouth. We made use of animation to do what no other medium could, conveying her unspoken emotions in the form of colourful and dynamic acrobats. In contrast, the Dad's thoughts are represented with a straight-edged and static miniature world. The room of the Granny is designed like a vintage home ad, oppressively polished. - What materials and techniques did you use?
Everything was animated frame-by-frame in TV-Paint. All the backgrounds were painted digitally in Procreate and Photoshop. We added a digital halftone onto the backgrounds to create a vintage magazine look. The film was composited in After Effects. - Was this project commissioned?

Team Acrobats met during their masters in animation at Gobelins Paris. They hail from across France and the UK. They are all currently working in the animation industry for TV shows and feature films or pursuing personal projects in animation. - Where are you currently based?
