She/Her - Why did you create this work?
I created this work to explore the complexities of love and connection through a ukiyo-e–inspired lens. My parents, on the left, reflect harmony despite distance, unified by shared understanding. In contrast, the right couple, though physically close, are emotionally divided. This piece reflects how belief and perspective shape intimacy, closeness, and dissonance. - How were your illustrations used?
This illustration was used as a submission in my art portfolio. It won a Gold Key in the Printmaking category in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards 2023. - What materials and techniques did you use?
Relief printmaking techniques were used to make these illustrations: rubber carving, paint gradient rolling, etc. Multiple copies of different colours and line weights were made in the process. - Was this project commissioned?
