  • Why did you create this work?
    I was commissioned to visualise how exercise helps strengthen the function of macrophages, which are the cells in our bodies that fight off disease and help our bodies heal.
  • How were your illustrations used?
    It was used on the cover of the science journal Molecular Metabolism
  • What materials and techniques did you use?
    I created the image using a collage of found images and mixing them with scanned textures and drawings that I created by hand.

    Charlie Padgett is an American born illustrator, living near Bordeaux, France. Charlie creates multi-layered, conceptual illustrations that resonate with the audience long after they've turned the page, scrolled down and got on with the business of living. His clients include; The New York Times, the BBC, Scientific American, Don Giovanni Records, Grey Advertising, La Vie, Molecular Metabolism.
