She/Her - Why did you create this work?
The Wellness Trap is a magazine I designed for my degree's final project brief. The focus of the publication is on how the toxic side of wellness culture is linked to elitism and consumerism. I explored how media perpetuates unattainable ideals and promotes expensive ‘solutions’, profiting from people's insecurities. The goal was to challenge harmful narratives and spark critical reflection. - How were your illustrations used?
The illustrations presented are for the cover of the designed magazine and for editorials included in the magazine. The aim of the illustrations are to subvert the polished ‘clean’ aesthetic of typical wellness media, highlighting the mental strain caused by the strive for perfectionism. - What materials and techniques did you use?
I worked digitally using Procreate and Adobe Illustrator building many layers which I felt was in keeping with the theme. This approach also allowed me to achieve a refined and impactful design that would attract and engage readers. - Was this project commissioned?
