To illustrate a poster of the Jules Verne classic. As it is a large poster, Burton wanted to make the viewer feel part of the action. It is off kilter to highlight the stormy sea and mostly references Verne's novel as far as the characters go apart from the central man - Ned Land with the harpoon - is a straight link to the costume in the Disney Film version.
