All aboard the illustrator bus w/ Ruby Wright

Join us for a one-of-a-kind illustrator’s event— a joyful blend of sketching, sightseeing, and connecting with fellow creatives. We’re heading off on a London bus with the brilliant Ruby Wright, author, illustrator, printmaker, and all-round visual storyteller.

Whether you’re a seasoned illustrator or just getting started this is a relaxed creative event to be inspired by London, meet new friends and get your pencils moving.

Ruby’s journey has taken her from studying sculpture to working at the BBC, before discovering her love of printmaking and picture books. Her first two titles as both author and illustrator are now published by Rocket Bird Books. In 2024 alone, Ruby was selected for the Bologna Illustrators Exhibition, shortlisted for the Shirley Hughes Award, and her debut picture book Animal Crackers was nominated for the Klaus Flugge Prize.

We’re thrilled she’s joining us for this special session.

What to expect:

We’ll start the day with a gentle meet-and-greet chat about drawing and creative practice with Ruby, before hopping on a classic red London bus and heading to Regents Park – from the top deck, or the bottom deck, we’ll sketch the city as it rolls by. Once we arrive, we’ll settle in with a coffee and (no-pressure!) share our drawings and ideas together.

If the weather turns rainy, no problem – there’s a café in the park where we can gather.

Approximate event details and times:

• Meet Ruby at 10:30am for some guidance on sketching meet in The Royal Festival Hall café ( riverside side by the windows)
• Depart by bus at 11:15am
• Sketch the fabulous sites and people of London from the bus
• Arrive at Regents Park by 12:00pm (traffic dependant!)
• Sketch & share your sketches (if you like) and chat with Ruby.

Bring along:

• Your sketchbook and drawing materials of choice
• Travel contactless payment/card for the bus (£1.75 fare not included in event price)
• Bring Coffee/snacks if you’d like — or grab something on the way
